KAI Cafe Restaurant
Jess Murphy can cook for the Gods but the secret of her success is that she prefers to cook for us mere mortals. Mortals like fish fingers with tartare sauce and pickles, so there they are on the Kai lunch menu. Mortals like chicken noodles, and sausage rolls with ketchup, and Kai is where you will find them, rendered perfectly, generously, with true culinary grace. And even when Ms Murphy’s cooking ascends heavenward – in the burnt butter cauliflower with Rossaveal hake and romesco, or the striploin with chanterelle butter – there is always a healthy dose of human earthiness keeping the dish on terra firma. Jess Murphy is no snob: she cooks to feed us and make us happy, and in Kai she achieves both. Special shout out to the glorious cakes and bakes that close the meal: they are dizzyingly good.
