Iyer's
On July 16th last, Gautham Iyer closed his café on Pope’s Quay to “pray, meditate and give thanks to the grace of the guru,” in this case, Guru Purnima. That’s the thing about Gautham Iyer. He doesn’t run his café in the normal way. He cooks all his southern Indian vegetarian food by hand. He admits the opening hours written on the door of Iyer’s are not, in fact, correct. His dream is to run a kitchen where he would not charge people money for the food. So, his business plan may be crazy, but his food is so super-crazy-extraordinary that no one cares. If you want to eat the most unique Indian food in Ireland, then you just need to have the luck to get there when he is open, then order up the incredible mung dahl with horsegram, and the vegetable kofta with saffron rice, and the methi roti with potato masala, and give thanks for the culinary grace of Mr Iyer.
