Elbow Lane
A cosy, dim, womb-like and welcoming room is the first element of Elbow Lane’s attraction. You step in off Oliver Plunkett Street and step into a Speakeasy-meets-Edward Hopper painting: this is a great room, alive with the fizz and sizzle of the live fire, and it’s no surprise that getting a table is the biggest ask in Cork city. The beers and the food then seal the deal, partly by intersecting – you can order wood grilled t-bone with smoked cascade butter, for instance – but simply by complementing each other: Jawbone with smoked pork neck; Arrow Weisse with ox tongue and kimchi salad. Head chef Aisling Moore and her team are really killing in these days in Elbow lane, so keep on trying to get that table.
