Good Day Deli
Every day is a good day when you are in Cork’s Good Day Deli.
Everyone loves what Clare and Kristin and the team produce in this de luxe glass-walled room, in the gardens of the Nano Nagle Centre.
What we all love is not just the food – though the food is vivid, singularly different, and beautifully delivered. We also love the vibe, the feel, the understated warm hospitality that floods everything that the staff offer in this handsome restaurant, tucked away west of the River Lee.
GDD is atypical: it doesn’t have the commercial jingle jangle of other places to eat. Both the room, and the surrounding gardens, have a contemplative, reflective character: you almost feel you should have brought your yoga mat, or your prayer mat, with you when you arrive for breakfast or lunch.
The sense of soulful sustenance runs right through the generous, healthful character of the cooking. The dishes have an atypical perspective: the burger is a lentil burger, with smoked beets and house kraut; the signature Kai Moana fish tacos have pickle and coriander aioli, and these are amongst the best tacos you can eat in Ireland; pears are poached with hibiscus and served with coconut mascarpone. Everything enjoys a creatively delivered tweak, a surprise flavour and texture delivered via superb County Cork ingredients, not least the lavishly flavourful and precise executed baking. And this attention to detail is manifest in every element of the Deli: lovely natural wines; excellent drinks; proper food for children. Good Day Deli is a true oasis.
