Lemon Tree Catering & Cafe
Joan Power was born into the business of hospitality – her folks ran the landmark Candleight Inn on the Dock Road – so it’s no surprise that the signature of The Lemon Tree is a confident, capacious professionalism. Ms Power rings all the changes in her restaurant – you can come here for breakfast, or for a cookery class, or buy some fine food-to-go for your party in the Food Store, or come with friends for a multi-course weekend dinner – but whatever she does is unified by the nous of a hard-working chef who understands exactly what people want.
And so, at breakfast, what folks want is a good cup of coffee and a hot bacon buttie, or maybe a mixed berry smoothie. At lunchtime, the people are going to go for some fish cakes with tartare sauce, or maybe bistro-style chicken with a wild mushroom cream sauce. And then, for a big Saturday night dinner, we all want those local waterford flavours that Ms Power lines up on our plates: Dennison’s duck leg confit with celeri remoulade; Dunmore east lobster linguini; spiced Portally lamb with lemon cous cous; Coolum Farm sirloin with bernaise sauce, and then a good affogato or a slice of chocolate and almond torte to finish.
The room is comfortable, the wines are inviting, and The Lemon Tree is the sort of destination that you find yourself returning to, time after time after time. Joan and the team know exactly what you like.
