Allison Roberts is one of those rare artists of living, a person who establishes roots in one place, all the better to draw in all the energies, cultures and clamour of the creative world that is all around her. Her West Cork company, Exploding Tree brings us the Food of the Gods, the cacao plant, finessed by Ms Roberts from bean to delicious bar. Exploding Tree is an elemental food company: they are aiming to mainline the energies of nature’s gifts – the blessings of fire, water, earth and air – and to deliver all these narcotising complexities to us in a bar of Salt & Seaweed chocolate, or a bag of cocoa husk tea, or the delicious promise of Coffee & Cocoa, or a bar of Eighty Eight. Ms Roberts aims for transcendence in her work, because she knows that chocolate is truly a gift of the Gods.
