If only all Irish corner shops were corner shops like Marlowe & Co.
Paddy, Danielle and Lisa have crafted a tabernacle of delights in Marlowe, the sort of store that not only has everything you need but – more importantly – has everything you want, whether that is an ice cream sandwich, or a mohair baby blanket from Kilkenny’s Cushendale woolen mill.
Of course, they have all the cool stuff from all the cool food people, from Carrow coffee from Sligo to Ballymakenny farm spuds from Louth. It’s all here, everything that makes your day a better day.
But what sets Marlowe & Co apart is all the other things they curate, from bipolarbear t-shirts to flower bouquets from The Garden, their homemade kombucha, the fact that they make a beetroot salad and name it Block Rockin’ Beets. Marlowe & Co is not just a vital store, it is also the artistic and aesthetic expression of three mighty personalities, people who know how to put a smile on your face, courtesy of a great cup of coffee, a fresh salad bowl, or just a witty way with words that makes you laugh. Some enterprising television producer will someday knock on the door of Marlowe & Co and propose a six-parter on daily life in a Dublin artisan grocery. Paddy is already ready with the one liners, and the puns you just wish you had thought of yourself. Demon.
