Because of its status as one of the iconic pubs of Galway and the Wild Atlantic Way, it would be easy to overlook the fact that the King’s Head also offers some of the most enjoyable cooking in Galway city. It’s typical of the work ethic of owners Paul and Mary Grealish, working closely with head chef Brendan Keane, to endlessly strive to improve the quality of the food they offer, and to strive to create a true signature style – a modern West Coast style – with the food in the Bistro. They do this superbly, with stunning dishes of Porcupine reef prawns, classic moules frites; Galway Hooker fish and chips; superb crab claws in chilli and garlic butter; Kelly’s oysters with shallot and red wine vinegar. This is great, modern, West Coast cooking, and the spirited service and the giddy energy of the lovely dining room makes The King’s Head a classic place to eat, as well as a classic place to enjoy a drink.
