Sham Hanifa's Chef Sham Basil Pesto didn't even last an hour in our house. The sweet chilli sauce lasted longer, but we think that was because Number 3 child hid it from the others in order to have it for his noodles. Number 1 child tore into the sundried tomato paste and the tomato chilli chutney. They weren't quite sure what to do with the balsamic jelly, so it's survived a bit longer. Otherwise, however, Chef Sham's sauces are not for long of this earth.
Chef Sham is, of course, Sham Hanifa, whose wonderfully exciting cooking at The Cottage in Jamestown has been creating culinary nirvana for Leitrim food lovers for the last few years. Mr Hanifa has a quite unique touch – East meets West of Ireland – and that potent magic of spice with ruddyness is captured in these seven sauces. Buy one, and you will buy them all, and you will scoff the lot. A splendid initiative, and one we hope to see widely distributed, and widely imitated.
