“Everything about it was top class”, said our friend Eugene, after a stay at Cork's super-swish River Lee Hotel.
So, what's top class about the River Lee Hotel? Well, everything, actually, right from the greeting – smartly-dressed, super-polite staff – to the rooms – some of the most comfortable beds we have ever encountered – to the style – modern design that is thoroughly comfortable – to the food – steak and lobster dinner in The Weir bistro for €20 was a special offer the night we stayed!
And it goes on like this, right to the moment that you are checking out, when they offer free bottles of water for the journey, and bid you a bientot.
The River Lee isn't just top-class, it's darn-near faultless. Every detail shows consideration, from the superb breakfasts, right down to the glassware in the rooms – we wanted to steal the glasses! Everything seems to have come together over time, and whilst there is a confidence about the team, who are clearly enjoying their work, there is not a hint of that self-congratulation that mars so many boutique hotels. These guys are hungry to get right to the top, and they are well on their way. “Top class” is dead right.
