Here's the sort of people Nick and Kathy Price are. When you first meet them, you always recall that first time.
For us, it was at Daft Eddie's in Strangford. Mr Price was carving some meats for the lunchtime service, standing behind a table of beautifully prepared salads. The year was 1978 and the Prices were already out-of-the-box. No one had ever cooked food the way they did it at Daft Eddie's – it was fresh, alive, vibrant, smart. Much like Nick and Kathy.
And through their time in Strangford, then Kilmood, and then to Belfast and Nick's Warehouse in Hill Street, from which they have just announced their retirement, Nick and Kathy were both the wittiest guys on the block, and the people who smiled the most. Everything they did, they did with humour. And they have stayed forever young, and they have given more to the food culture of Northern Ireland than any other individuals.
Mr Price wants to make cheese and salamis, and do some sailing. All good ambitions, but maybe just not at the same time.
