Root and Branch, run by Ben Craig and Simon Johnston, is an important addition to Belfast's emerging coffee scene. In fact, R&B are largely responsible for the explosion of coffee consciousness that is happening in Belfast right now.
Brewers, who also roast, their little two-and-half upstairs downstairs roomed operation is an iconic little space, where they encourage their customers to explore the joys of taste and aroma perception through their single origin, seasonal roasts, all roasted in-house and brewed with great concentration and skill.
You'll find Root & Branch coffee in other coffee shops but, if you buy it here, you go through a little outside covered space to their counter, which is set up beside their roaster. There is an upstairs room that functions as an education space with coffee pot plants, two chairs and a few stools. It's an incredibly tactile little space with sheepskins covering the chairs and benches, linen, chipboard, end grain, stainless steel and everything imbued with the aroma of freshly roasted coffee. Don't miss R&B when you are in Belfast, either in the original space on the Ormeau Road, or in their new gaff in the Ormeau Baths.
