Brian McDermott is a legendary figure in County Donegal, and he is back in the kitchen in the hip new Foyle Hotel, right in the centre of the village. Mr McDermott’s food is calm, classic and polished: Mulroy Bay mussels with cider, barley and parsley; salt water-cured cod fillet; Malin head crab linguini. Comfy rooms upstairs, and how marvellous to see this fine old hotel restored to its glory.
Bothy Coffee, White Park Bay, Co Antrim
The pretty and very busy wooden cabin coffee house is on the main road running west from Bushmills, so it’s a magnet for those exploring the aching loveliness of the north Antrim coast. Cosy couches and good cooking mean you will want to linger longer than you planned, as you enjoy a London Fog and a warm chicken Caesar. (See photos) Second branch now open in Mallusk.
