The Farmhouse Cafe
If it wasn’t enough already that the Farmhouse Cafe serve their own farm pork, vegetables and salad leaves, and concoct soups and casseroles from scratch in a corner of a Safety Superstore on the Longmile Road, Susan O’Sullivan’s inspiring cafe has expanded and today includes a bakery, with weekly sourdough, daily batch loaves and – honestly – just about the best sandwiches in Dublin. Not only is the superb bread made on the premises, but the chickens are roasted, the ham is boiled, the gammon is slow cooked, the Emmental is cut, and the Dexter Beef roasted. The room has doubled in size, but retains its homely feel, thanks to a mishmash of salvaged furniture and up-cycled crockery, some donated by their regular customers. The Farmhouse Cafe is a treasure in the concrete and tarmac jungle that is the M50 and it’s environs. They don’t miss a beat.
