Michael's Mount Merrion
Everyone agreed that Michael’s of Mount Merrion was pretty much perfect. And than Gaz Smith opened Little Mike’s, four doors down the street, and everyone agreed that Little Mike’s was even more perfect than Michael’s. It shows what a talent Mr Smith is that only he can upstage himself. In Little Mike’s he has perfected a formula of contemporary seafood cooking that shines through every plate – Dublin Bay prawns with grilled lime aioli; Lambay Island crab claws; sardines straight from the grill with salsa verde. He adds in a steak and some cutlets from Rick Higgins’ butchers, and sends this superb food out into the room paired with delicious wines, which are served in very fine glassware. Of course, southsiders have taken to Little Mike’s with the same abandon that they took to the mothership that is Michael’s. It’s an amazing Mount Merrion double act, and not to be missed.
