If you get lucky in life, you might create one masterpiece, one piece of work which can happily be described as transcendent.
What, then, do we make of the work of Brigitta and Peter Curtin, because this pair have created not one, not two, but four masterpieces, and all of them are in the little west coast village of Lisdoonvarna, in west County Clare.
Their original masterpiece, of course, is The Roadside Tavern, the traditional pub from which they have fashioned a small empire of destinations. Everyone in the world has in their mind’s eye a picture of the classic, traditional Irish country pub. Well, the Roadside Taven is that classic, traditional Irish country pub. It’s not a facsimile, it’s real. It’s not svelte, it's rustic. It’s usually jammers, but no one minds if you can’t get a seat, because you want to be in here, in this place that you dreamed about, and which has become real right before your eyes.
And then you have a glass or two of the Burren Brewery beers, and maybe a gorgeous bowl of chowder, and you think to yourself: what a wonderful world.
