O'Mahony's of Watergrasshill
Victor and Máire of O’Mahony’s are staging a quiet revolution in the quiet little village of Watergrasshill. O’Mahony’s isn’t just a quirky, wabi-sabi pub with nice food: it has quickly become a North Cork hub, thanks to great cooking, terrific hospitality, a Neighborfood policy, and a series of smashing outdoor spaces where you can hold your wedding reception whilst enjoying meat cooked on an Argentinian parrilla. Central to all this is their inspired treatment of local foods – Jack McCarthy’s pork; Fitzgerald’s beef; Ballyhoura mushrooms; Eight Degrees craft beers; Bread and Roses breads. Put them together, and the eating is very fine indeed: Carrigclena duck with carrots; carpaccio of Ballinwillin venison. They have also re-invented the concept of Sunday lunch, serving small plates of terrifically fresh and lively food. Start with a Bertha’s Revenge, and take it from there.
