Lough Bishop House
Chris and Helen Kelly’s Lough Bishop House is not just a farm. Lough Bishop House is a philosophy, a philosophy of how one lives an integrated, respectful existence, a philosophy of living amongst living things – animals; trees; bees; livestock; fruit and vegetables; the joys of work – and ensuring that everything thrives. Working as both agricultural and architectural curators, the Kellys have created the Derrynagarra herd of Moiles cattle, and their draught horses also carry the Derrynagarra prefix. They have painstakingly restored their house, recreating its elegant, modest beauty. Lough Bishop is a tonic for the soul like no other, because it shows us what modern farming can be, and should be – a modern concept of true conservatism, where “everyone is a conservative about the things they love.” Even the shortest stay as a guest at Lough Bishop, enjoying the farm along with this inspiring couple, will reset your focus about the art of living well, and what it truly means to live well. Chris and Helen's work at Lough Bishop House is one of the most significant acts of cultural and agricultural activism in modern Ireland.
