Celtic Ross

Archive - all the best places to eat, shop and stay in Ireland. A local guide to local places.

Chefs Alex Petit and Shane Deane, and manager Neil Grant, are powering the stylish Celtic Ross Hotel into starry stratospheres these days. Their restaurant menus offer one of the most enticing culinary collations of the region, a Wild Atlantic Way menu of West Cork langoustines with buttermilk cream; Irish tuna with anchovy emulsion; featherblade of West Cork beef with Baltimore shiitake mushrooms; Rosscarbery strawberry plate. Do note that afternoon tea is one of the best in the country, and terrific value.

Their latest venture, the hotel's CRFT food truck, sees the team heading off in a radical new direction. When you have a hankering for Korean pork belly with local kimchi, or Roaringwater Bay mussels with cider cream, or West Cork scampi with papaya and peanut dressing, then CRFT is the destination, and this is also the perfect food to pair with West Cork craft beers.

The Celtic Ross has always been superbly run, Neil Grant is one of the great hotel managers, always driving the elegant seafront hotel forward. Here is one of the great West Cork escapes, a defining West Cork destination.
